What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website saves on your device to remember things like your preferences, whether you're signed in, or whether you've already seen a banner. Some cookies are needed for the site to work; others are optional.
How PuzzleYYC uses cookies
By default, PuzzleYYC sets only the cookies needed to remember your cookie preferences themselves. Analytics cookies are blocked until you opt in via the cookie banner. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we honor it automatically and analytics stays off.
Cookies we may set
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
pyc-consent-v1 | PuzzleYYC | Remembers your cookie preferences so the banner doesn't reappear on every visit. | Essential | 12 months |
_ga | Identifies your browser as a unique visitor for Google Analytics (GA4) reporting. | Analytics | 2 months | |
_ga_G-7DNTKJNHEE | Stores session state for the PuzzleYYC Google Analytics (GA4) property. | Analytics | 2 months |
The _ga and _ga_G-7DNTKJNHEE rows only apply once you accept the Analytics category in the cookie banner. Their duration of 2 months matches the retention period set on the PuzzleYYC GA4 property.
Microsoft Clarity (cookieless)
PuzzleYYC also uses Microsoft Clarity for session recordings and heatmaps, gated by the same Analytics consent above. Clarity is configured cookieless on this site: it sets no cookies. Instead, it recognizes your session using browser characteristics such as screen size and browser type. All page text is masked in Clarity's recordings by default (strict text masking), so recordings show layout and interaction patterns rather than the words on the page.
We will update this table whenever we add or remove cookies or analytics tools. The effective date at the top changes when material updates ship.
Changing your preferences
Open the Cookie Settings button at the bottom of any PuzzleYYC page to change your choice at any time. You can also clear your browser's cookies for puzzleyyc.com to reset the banner.
Third-party cookies
The _ga and _ga_G-7DNTKJNHEE cookies above are the only third-party cookies PuzzleYYC sets, and only once you accept Analytics. Microsoft Clarity, described above, sets none. If we ever add another third-party tool, we'll update this table and the cookie banner before it runs.
Browser controls
You can also block or delete cookies via your browser settings. See your browser's help page (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) for instructions. Blocking essential cookies may cause some site features to stop working.
